A single
porter would often carry the bags of two or three tourist. They
often carry more than their body weight.

These
high altitude villages were sparsely populated. Most of the villagers
worked to support the trekkers.

We
often only walked a few hours a day. We were limited by the the
altitude gain we made each day. We had to be careful to not climb
too quickly. Many tourist in this area often have problems with
altitude sickness from climbing to rapidly.
